we never think that it’ll be the last time for anything when we are in the moment. we think there will be a tomorrow. a next week. a next month. but the funny thing is, moments are so fleeting and you never know when it’s “the last time”. the last time you’ll see them smile at you as they go back through the front door. the last time you’ll whisper “i love you” into the static of a phone call after you know they’ve already fallen asleep. the last time you’ll feel their fingers intertwine with your own as the other hand clasps the steering wheel. or hear them say your name through a smile. it all happens so quickly, but it also ends quickly too. “the last time” could literally be the moment you’re experiencing. it’s kind of sad to look at life this way and feel like you have to treat every moment like it’s the last, but maybe that’s the only way to hold on a little longer because eventually, the clock strikes and your time is up.
